The public library network consists of one media library and eight proximity libraries : The media library is the main infrastructure of the network. It offers encyclopedic multimedia resources which can be lent and consultation on the spot, and varied services (exhibition and activities spaces, language cabin, Internet access, listening post, rooms to work in group, mass lending, groups reception…) on 4000 m². It accomplished a patrimonial mission with the collections in Frankish (local dialect) and the resources of Lorraine. It houses the common department of the network (direction and management, bookbinding, informatics). Through the Frankish’s resources, the public library network would like to form a cross-border network with the libraries from Saarland, Luxemburg… and indeed be recognized by the French National Library in Paris as a specialist centre in Frankish language and civilization. As a community department, the network operates under the care of the political and administrative decision making-service of the Communauté d’Agglomération. As a cultural department, it enjoys the support of the state, specially the Ministère de la Culture, de la Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles (DRAC) and the Centre National du Livre (CNL) which financially contribute to its functioning and its investments. Its business is submitted to the states technical audit which is exercised by the “Inspection Générale des Bibliothèques”. The network also enjoys the financial support of the Conseil Général de Moselle and the Conseil Régional de Lorraine. |
